About Tammy Nelson, MSW, RSW

Tammy Nelson received her Bachelor of Social Work in 2010 and her Masters of Social Work Based in Indigenous Knowledge in 2019 at the University of Manitoba. Currently, Tammy is a Ph.D. Candidate in Social Work and a graduate of the WHEAT Institute where she obtained her certification in employing Indigenous Expressive Arts within a clinical setting. Tammy has worked in Child Welfare, specializing in Youth Exploitation Investigations. She has participated in several initiatives to address the human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and youth. She is the author of Mookii Mikinak: Traditional road to healing for Indi genous women who experienced sexual exploitation. Tammy has been a therapist working with children of all ages, where she uses Indigenous perspectives on healing through the arts. As an Indigenous woman, she is proud of her heritage and is an active member of her community.
